What is Indian Statistical Service Exam 2025 and when did the notification come?
Indian Statistical Service Exam 2025 is a UPSC level competitive exam in which mainly those students get a chance who are strong in Statistics subject. This exam is for those candidates who want to become statistical officers or specialists in the government. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts this exam every year.
This year’s official notification was released on 12 February 2025. Along with the notification, vacancies, eligibility, exam pattern and important rules for the exam were mentioned. A total of 47 vacancies have been released, out of which 35 are for ISS and the rest for IES (Indian Economic Service). What is Eligibility and how to fill the form for the Exam ?
To apply for this exam, the candidate must have a Master’s degree in Statistics or related subject. The age limit is also fixed – candidates between 21 to 30 years can apply. Reserved category gets relaxation as per UPSC rules.
The application process was simple:
- One Time Registration (OTR) has to be done by visiting the official website of UPSC – upsc.gov.in.
- Login and fill the application form – name, qualification, address, etc.
- Required documents like photo, signature and ID proof have to be uploaded.
- Fees have to be paid – ₹200 for General, OBC and EWS. There is no fee for SC, ST, PwBD and Female candidates.
- After submitting the form, its printout has to be saved for future use.
What will be the syllabus and exam pattern of the exam?
This exam happens in two stages – Written Exam and Interview.
Written Exam – 1000 Marks
There are total 6 papers in it:
- General English – 100 marks (3 hours)
- General Studies – 100 marks (3 hours)
- Statistics-I (Objective) – 200 marks (2 hours, MCQ)
- Statistics-II (Objective) – 200 marks (2 hours, MCQ)
- Statistics-III (Descriptive) – 200 marks (3 hours)
- Statistics-IV (Descriptive) – 200 marks (3 hours)
Negative marking also happens in objective papers. In descriptive papers you have to write short and long answers.
Interview/Viva-Voce – 200 Marks
Candidates who qualify the written exam are called for interview. Here their personality, knowledge and communication skills are judged. Final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks of both written and interview.
When will be the result announced?
After the exam, the result is published on the official website of UPSC. First the result of the written exam will be declared, after that a shortlist will be made for the interview. The final result is expected to be declared by September 2025.
